You need at least 4 weeks off. Every single person I have talked to who took 2 weeks off took an additional 2 afterwards. This is major surgery sweetie. So take 4 weeks off. And so what if you sit around for a month, your body needs to heal.

You won't be thirsty while you're there; they will most likely be giving you an IV which will hydrate you better than you could ever do yourself.

Girlfriend, would you please take the 4 weeks off??? Doctors don't tell you this stuff just to let you hang out and play tiddly winks. If you go back too soon, you could rupture something or have a bleed problem. I have worked for a bariatric surgery center and we had a lot of people come in who didn't take off the time and they regretted it bigtime...when they ended back up in the hospital. Not only that, they ended up off work another 6 weeks. My friend Alisa is one of these. She didn't follow doctor's orders and she ended up having to be in the hospital for 6 weeks and off work for another month after that. There are a lot of things you can do while you are off. Go to Como Park concervatory and enjoy the free zoo and flowers. As for Supe not driving...the driving test is a great idea. There was a lady at my work that is very independent and capable of driving and they tried to revoke her driving privileges, and she took the test and a remedial driving class and she is now driving. On the other hand, maybe the doctor is looking out for Supe's best interest. Regardless of if Supe drives or not, a w/c accessible van is a great idea so that you or someone else could drive him around. The doctor may see something that you don't see like his muscles getting worse if he continues to drive. Also, if he drives and the doctor has advised against it and he continues to drive and somehow gets into an accident, your auto insurance WON'T pay for the accident. I am not trying to put a damper, but just wanted you to be advised.
