Dude, when I saw your comment about marijuana being a gateway drug, I laughed out loud. I think that's in reference to marijuana putting you in the position socially to experiment with other drugs. A guy like Supe probably doesn't have to worry about that. And if he CAN get someone to prescribe it, I doubt you could get booted for signing a no-drug clause. That would be like being booted out for taking your Celexa. Insanity.

I think that Supe is being "short-sighted" re: the condo idea and not too practical besides in not wanting to look into it. From what you've been saying he's not well and where does that leave you? The condo would be a "gateway" into home ownership and a starter at least. You can't pick your neighbors ever, when you buy (or rent). As for the "grass" idea, tell him to forget it!! It's againest the law and the medical field surely has alot more to offer. You're not being unrealistic, you're showing common sense in questioning that whole thing. If he's in that much pain he needs to talk to his doctor and deal with it that way. You don't need an addict in the family.

With the plethera of pain medications out there, it hardly seems appropriate for people to suggest pot. Jeesh! Poor guy! I deal with people every day who have severe chronic pain. I can give you many suggestions. I would recommend a Duragesic patch because it is a pain patch that you wear on your skin and it releases medication steadily over 72 hours. Then, if he has any break-through pain with the patch, they can prescribe something for that (most of my residents don't need the breakthrough medications unless they are having a horrendous day). Some of my residents with spinal fractures and severe degenerative arthritis have now been able to be comfortable. I also had a lady with MD that used it and she loved it. As for the condo, I hope you go for it. There are so many benefits for you and Supe in a condo. There are also Townhomes that are condos that are not connected. They have all the benefits of condos but no connected neighbors. When you buy a condo, though, the walls are not like they are in an apartment complex. They had better be if you are going to be paying that kind of money for one. Just think, you can get a nice first-floor condo (and most of them are perfect for H/C accessible), NO lawn care!!!, you can do ANYTHING you want as far as decorating, some places will do indoor maintainance for you (so you don't have to)(if the sink breaks, pick up the phone), the association rules usually weed out undesirables, and the grounds usually have nice paths for you to walk/wheel around. Sounds like a "cousin" for you. Another plus, they are less expensive than a house, most of the time. The tax benefits are good, too, because you can write all of that interest off. YAY!
