O.k. Take a deep breath because you are going to make it. You, who writes and has a gift of writing...oh and did I mention the reading?? You just need to put it all into context...but I'm preaching to the choir here. You'll do just fine with school..it's just getting into the groove of it again. As for the friend with the cancer, I'm so sorry! Wish people knew that acid reflux disease is or can be a precurser to lower esophagal and upper stomach cancer. You know when you read about "gerd"...and seeing your doctor, they aren't kidding! My mother died of this disease in the mid-70's and your dad had the surgery to correct his reflux tendancies. His surgeon explained the cancer ramifications to me at that time. So if anyone reading this is troubled with reflux don't just lob the Tums. See your doctor and get his opinion. I'm not saying you have cancer or will have it, it's just good to keep informed. Something bad can be preventable.

Ok, the easiest way to write an essay is this:

5 paragraphs: THe intro, three main ideas, the conclusion. Your thesis should be an "Even though this, blah blah blah," so you have more to explore in your three body paragraphs. As for the paragraphs, they can be broken down, too: Main idea sentence, two quotes, conclusion sentence. For each quote, you write a lead in and lead out sentence. The damn things write themselves if you break it down into manageable pieces.

My husband can sympathise with you. He just started school after being out for close to the same amount of time as you, and he is having to do a lot of papers and reading. YUCK! He freaks out as well. You will do well, I am sure.
