Looking at the photos of the damage from the tornado and even the church are surreal. Pictures and even television can't begin to capture the magnatude of destruction. Our community (which is small) was realing with grief at the loss of the church early in the week. Then Thursday came with the storm. I have to say my husband and I were watching the tornado almost messmerized by it but at the same time wondering where it exactly was and what it was doing. When we saw the homes by the country club, which by the way were significant in size (& splendor) are all like matchsticks now. It's so sad! One gentleman was killed when his house collapsed on him as he was in their basement. He lived in a former neighborhood of ours and we are wondering at the destruction there since noone can drive out there without id's. People we know have lots material possessions and it's sad. But at least they have their lives and material things can be replaced. I would say or ask, please pray for our town and the people as we all pull together and re-build.

The minute I read about the tornado, I figured you must be in the Stoughton area. That is the only tornado I heard of last night. We had some heavy storms hear last night in Elgin, just a little bit Southwest of you off of I90 the wind shook the big trees in my back yard and out tumbled old dead limbs that were caught up in there all summer. FIREWOOD!!!!

It's Sunday and what a bittersweet weekend we had. My husband and I got to celebrate our 40th anniversay...thank you to our kids for honoring us in such a special way. We will have memories for years to come! The storm we had was just so devestating but we're seeing the town come together in such a great way~supporting one another. We had a wonderful church service just thanking God that lives had been spared when many more could have been lost. It's really amazing to think that only one person lost their life..and they were doing everything they were supposed to be doing by being in their basement. Things can be replaced, but people's lives cannot be. We had an opportunity to go to our former neighborhood and it was once heavily wooded but the trees (which were mostly old oaks and very big) are all gone now. Words can't describe the damage! I think the govenor of the state has declared this area a federal disaster area. There are so many needs here..clothing, shelter and more! Paula, you are pretty 'right on' by the way.
