It's actually really smart to realize you need help and that it's available, and it's really brave to ask for and accept help even when it seems like something obvious that is available to anyone. My daycare has a Second Harvest food table out every other week and I'd be crazy not to look close and stock up- and I do, much more than other families because I know that the time can easily come where some bill has to get paid and it's better that there's lots of cream of chicken soup and minute rice in the cupboard. I'll be so sad when the farmer's market closes because it's such a luxury to eat fresh produce like tomatoes and peppers for so cheap. And even there I look at every vendor until I know I'm getting the cheapest price for what I want. You should be proud you can pay your bills and trust you'll be fed. That's really something that most people in a similar boat have a tremendously hard time with. Trust me.

People of faith are generally looking for situations where they can offer a blessing. It's giving them a blessing in return and not "charity". Someday you will be in the position (sounds like you already are in some ways..hence the bags of items for the hurricane victims) where you'll be able to do the same. Pride is the issue here...what does the "Good Book" say about that? You and your husband sound like you both have tender hearts. That's a very good thing!
